Plasencia

We heard from locals that this area had suffered a mini heat wave over the last 15 days, We hadn't suffered it, we positively enjoyed it. Alas it’s gone now, the last few days have been cooler 18/20’ which is cold compared to 30’ that we have become accustomed too. Marys expression tells it all as she reads tucked under a blanket. What a wimp!

So, not allot doing which give me the opportunity to wash the little red car and other odds and sods. I BBQed Lamb cutlets with some asparagus spears in garlic, they were delicious. Just got settled for a quite evening when it started to rain again, heavy this time, very heavy, could hardly hear the telly!

A new day brings promise of sunshine although plenty of cloud about. We decided to visit Caceres, a town 85Km south. We arrived to find a festival in full swing.

Marys expression tells a different story today, sunshine and a market all on one day!

Stalls were set up around the town selling all locally produced foods and handiwork including hand built furniture.

Stall fees and 10% of all proceeds are to be given to the “Fiestas Infantilise”.

We had lunch and spent the afternoon on the tourist trail,

This small but very active group of musicians kept crossing our paths!

No, it’s not the Klu-klux-Klan, It’s some sort of religious order, active in the middle ages. Enough to put the fear of god in you! Perhaps that was the “orders” objective? Anyway I don’t think the they were successful, I haven't seen any about! P.S. there’s a cross at the top of the pole, Mary astute eye missed it.

We strolled from the restaurant up a narrow road which looked inviting to discover an old castle and courtyard, couldn’t find out what it was,but it looked very interesting.

On the way back we witnessed what you can only describe as “big skies” You looked around and could see little land, and which ever way you looked the sky seemed to meet the land just a couple of miles away. We are on a Plato on top of a mountain range which must account for the strange phenomena.

It’s the 25th as I write and we have decided to break camp tomorrow and leave the following day back to Salamanca and then turning left towards Portugal.

It suddenly dawned upon me that Man-U face Barcelona in the European cup final the day we plan to leave. I Know we can see the match here in the camp’s bar, but if we leave as planned, will we be able to see the game at our next venue? We will still be in Spain, so we think we will, we must make up our minds whether to stay or go? One thing for certain, I can’t rely on the reception of the Oyster which is hit and miss at best.

26th we are packed and ready to go in the morning, one last meal with the blue Magpies.
