Olhao. 28th September 2009

There are two ways to Olhao, a pretty route and a motorway route. The pretty route was twisty and Mary said she would rather take the train. Since there was no train we took the motorway, (anything to oblige). It took us 3hrs. We didn’t get lost, (difficult on a motorway). We stopped for coffee and the driver of this car stopped as he was leaving the car park and posed for a photo, nice car!

At the motorway end, just 5 minutes away, and we were there, no hassle.

The site is small perhaps room for a dozen vans with room for a further 10 for storage.

Pomegranates, pears, apples, oranges, limes, plums, peaches, olives, figs and dates all grow in and around the site. Step out of the MH and two strides, I pluck a lemon from a tree to slice for my Coke. Not done that before!

The owner had been briefed and quickly pointed to the place he had reserved for both our short camping stay and the place for storage. The price? Storage, 40 Euros a month and 15 for the car. Camping? 10 Euros a night. We were delighted with the quotes. The toilets are new and spotless, port-a-cabin type with 1 toilet, wash basin and shower all in the same space, the same for the ladies. A strong bladder is a requirement, If someone is taking a shower you’d better not want a pee!!

Apart from that drawback, the site is excellent, secure and well maintained. The owner, Franco, quickly had us hooked up to both water and electric, he then took me to the bungalow on site where David & Irene live, most helpful. Before long Mary and I were drinking coffee on their sun terrace where we chattered for the afternoon. Cacares 011

We made arrangements to meet the following day as he had booked for lunch at their favourite restaurant. My treat, 3 courses including wine and coffee for the four of us, just 34 Euros, wow, the last of the big spenders!

We stayed another night so Mary could do her “big wash” which meant I had to remake the beds, a chore which I look forward to with enormous enthusiasm!!

3 nights here, 1 more than planned, and we were on our way to Lagos, a couple of hours west.xx
