26th April. 195 km drive took us to Camping Hotel Sierra Nevada (Granada). The site is excellent if unusual, as it is in the City, an oasis, so to speak. The next day we were on the move, I had no idea how large a city Granada is, and the traffic is horrendous. The car for once was parked up, the bus service is cheap, frequent, and busy busy busy, have not been in a human sandwich like this for a long time, some more enjoyable more than others? Granada the city, is beautiful, here are some images.
La Alhambra, set in the Sierra Nevada mountains is a must, a full day is required to do justice to this impressive Palace. Having paid to get in (12 Euros each) we waited an hour to enter the centre as numbers are restricted, we sat here and drank coffee to pass the time,
in fact we were very lucky to have been allowed entry at all, as normally one has to book in advance, so popular is this place. Entrance to the Palace is further restricted, groups are spaced every half hour and if you are late for your slot you are refused entry.
The gardens and views are impressive to say the least, the buildings have intricate carvings on most of the walls.
My fingers on this picture gives you some idea of the of the intricacy of the carvings.
The mind boggles when you see the amount of carvings here.
I took lots of photos of these carvings which I find staggering, unfortunately a Blog can’t do justice to the skills employed here which were started some 12 centuries ago. Some more images to tempt you if in the area.
This building below is the museum, but a surprise awaits you when you enter?
It turns out to be a facade hiding this auditorium, each of the arched doorways lead you into different sections of the museum
I must mention the weather at this point, since arriving in Spain its been 25 degrees plus, perfect. It seems that I only write about bad weather, mainly rain, we soon become complacent when the weather turns good, keep it up Mr Weather man, Mary and I appreciate it.
28th, we visit the Cathedral, again by bus.
How did they do it? Incredible!
