Burgos or bust.

5th May. We had heard there was 7” of snow over the Sierra De La Demanda the previous week.  We were not surprised to see a dozen or so snow ploughs parked at the road side as we reached the top of the range. I pulled into a garage for fuel and was told that only vehicles with snow chains fitted to their tyres were allowed to pass the week before, but all was clear now.

Some interesting clouds were building up, I was anxious to be on my way, I am pleased to say the journey of 158 miles was uneventful, despite the road surfaces slowing us down. We averaged only 30MPH on this, the A1 E5 motorway. There was snow to be seen at the road side but nothing to suggest any danger.

We were pleased to arrive at Fuentes Blanca's (Burgos) as we were both knackered.

Mary relaxed whilst I made camp.

The site is level and there is plenty of room for the largest of MH’s but since we were on a tight schedule I refrained from assembling the Safari room, here, or at any of the sites visited.

There is a restaurant here and pool, but we were away after 3 nights so didn’t use them. I did find time to wash the little red car, which was covered with road salt from our journey.

We drove into Burgos for shopping one day, had a three course lunch for 20 Euros including wine, very nice. The weather wasn’t good, it rained. We decided to make our penultimate journey to Santillana which is just 45 minutes drive west of Santander and the ferry.
